Your boarding passes, movie tickets, retail coupons, loyalty cards, and more are now all in one place. With Passbook, you can scan your iPhone or iPod touch to check in for a flight, get into a movie, and redeem a coupon. You can also see when your coupons expire, where your concert seats are, and the balance left on that all-important coffee bar card. Wake your iPhone or iPod touch, and passes appear on your Lock screen at the appropriate time and place — like when you reach the airport or walk into the store to redeem your gift card or coupon. And if your gate changes after you’ve checked in for your flight, Passbook will even alert you to make sure you’re not relaxing in the wrong terminal.
Back in the early days, push notification was very difficult at best, all the certificates, lack of logging, and hit or miss push messages. Then came companies like Urban Airship who made our lives so much simpler…
We lived and learned… So we sat down and started coding a platform for passbook and came up with an exciting and powerful solution. We are mobile developers, so this was an exciting new territory for us. We opened up the php and ruby books and started coding. With our understanding of push and IOS app, we quickly put together a platform that would rival well funded companies… The design is simple, yet functional with a graphical passbook design tool, its a snap to view what the final product is going to look like. I am using the platform as we speak to keep track of all those little cards that fill your wallet.. I have my digital StartBucks card, all of my airline tickets all though they dont work yet with the airlines, its a handy thing to have on your phone when you have to check in. Oh and the GPS features is great and worked flawlessly. I am on vacation now with the family and as we showed up to the San Francisco Airport, my phone dinged and to my surprise, because I entered the SFO Airports GPS location, the tickets popup up on my phone.
Apple may not have jumped into the NFC pond yet, but I see the potential using this tool in the real world and I cant wait to open up the doors and share it with you.
